Machinist's Workshop
I just got a no-obligation issue of Machinist’s Workshop in the mail, apparently they know 3 things about me:  1) I love machining…  2) I love new projects for my shop…  3) I didn’t ask for this magazine…  Well at least they got #3 right. And #2, well that just bums me out, I don’t even have a shop :( maybe someday… Apparently Machinist’s Workshop...

How Google Failed Its Users and Gave Birth to an... →
ReadWriteWeb (a blog I regularly read) recounts a story of how an interesting post title, and a high google ranking with the words “facebook” and “login” in them, can bring in the typical facebook user in droves.  And let’s face it, the typical facebook user does not quite understand the internet.  Make sure you visit the original post as well “Facebook Wants to...

SEC non-conference schedule - A statistical look...
Much of this info I blatantly took from Phil Steele’s blog: http://www.philsteele.com/Blogs/DailyBlog.html Let’s start with baselines, the SEC teams play 4 games each and there are 12 total SEC teams for a total of 48 non-conference games. The Pac 10 has 10 teams and plays 3 non-conference games for a total of 30 non-conference games. Out of 48 games the SEC plays 13 BCS teams or...

AT&T Is a Little Slow
I just recieved an “AT&T Free Msg” on my iPhone, it’s July 22nd at noon.  It’s funny becuase the iPhone 3.0 software was released way back on June 17th and got quite a bit of media coverage at the time. I installed the software at the time.  Does this mean that AT&T has no idea what software version we are using? The message also instructs me to connect my iPhone...

A Futuristic Movie Timeline
Those of you who know me personally, know that I’m a bit of a sci-fi movie buff, and a data geek, which is why I found this timeline so fascinating. Some interesting things to ponder: Futuristic bloodsports peak late next decade (Rollerball, The Running Man). We don’t have to worry about super-intelligent Apes for a loooong time. The coming singularity (google Ray Kurzweil), will...

I'm Back!
Alright I’m back on the blog.  Just did a bit of spring cleaning, deleted the old posts from twitter.  I also re-linked a few stories to the appropriate flickr page, it turns out if you use iPhoto to upload your images to flickr, and then you delete the corresponding iPhoto album, it removes the images from flickr.  Thanks for the warning Apple.  I’ve got a few draft posts in the...

Artificial Cartilage Performs Better than the Real... →
Let’s hope it’s available soon, I’m going to need it. The smooth cartilage that covers the ends of long bones provides a level of lubrication that artificial alternatives haven’t been able to rival – until now. Researchers say their lubricating layers of “molecular brushes” can outperform nature under the highest pressures encountered within joints, with...

Why Is My Pee Neon Yellow?
I’ve wondered why pee can take on that bright neon color for a while but never bothered to look it up.  It usually occurred after drinking an energy drink or taking a multivitamin. The molecule above is the culprit, Riboflavin, otherwise known as vitamin B2.  According to Wikipedia, “Although toxic doses can be administered by injection, any excess at nutritionally relevant doses is...
